Can your dog donate blood?

Your dog can be a blood donor if he/she meets the following criteria:

  • is between the ages of 1 and 8,
  • weighs over 23 kg (is not overweight),
  • has a good temperament,
  • is regularly wormed,
  • is on flea and tick preventive,
  • is current on their required vaccinations (rabies, distemper, parvovirus, parainfluenza, hepatitis),
  • does not receive any medications now,
  • has never received blood transfusion,
  • has not travelled outside Europe for one year up until now,
  • has never been pregnant (female).




Can your cat donate blood?

Your cat can be a blood donor if he/she meets the following criteria:

  • is between the ages of 1 and 8,
  • weighs over 5 kg (is not overweight),
  • has a good temperament,
  • is desexed,
  • is regularly wormed,
  • is current on their required vaccinations,
  • is indoor-only, and all companion housemate cats must be indoor and negative for FIV and FeLV,
  • does not receive any medications now,
  • has never received blood transfusion,
  • has not travelled outside Europe for one year up until now,
  • has never been pregnant (female),
  • you consent to anesthesia during the blood collection.
