Can your dog donate blood?
Your dog can be a blood donor if he/she meets the following criteria:
- is between the ages of 1 and 8,
- weighs over 23 kg (is not overweight),
- has a good temperament,
- is regularly wormed,
- is on flea and tick preventive,
- is current on their required vaccinations (rabies, distemper, parvovirus, parainfluenza, hepatitis),
- does not receive any medications now,
- has never received blood transfusion,
- has not travelled outside Europe for one year up until now,
- has never been pregnant (female).
Can your cat donate blood?
Your cat can be a blood donor if he/she meets the following criteria:
- is between the ages of 1 and 8,
- weighs over 5 kg (is not overweight),
- has a good temperament,
- is desexed,
- is regularly wormed,
- is current on their required vaccinations,
- is indoor-only, and all companion housemate cats must be indoor and negative for FIV and FeLV,
- does not receive any medications now,
- has never received blood transfusion,
- has not travelled outside Europe for one year up until now,
- has never been pregnant (female),
- you consent to anesthesia during the blood collection.
